What isD2 Predictor?

D2 Predictor is a prediction site for Dota 2 Tier 1 tournaments, inspired by the We Say Things podcast hosted by SUNSfan and syndereN. Before each tournament, you pick the Top 3, a Dark Horse, and a White Donkey. After the event ends, the site scores everything and updates the leaderboards.

How to Play

  1. Sign in with Google or Discord.
  2. Find an upcoming tournament on the homepage.
  3. Submit your predictions before the tournament starts. Picks lock at the official start time.
  4. After the tournament ends and results are entered, scores are calculated automatically.
  5. Check the leaderboards to see how you stack up!

What Do I Pick?

🥇🥈🥉 Top 3 - Predict which teams will finish 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. All three must be different teams.
🐴 Dark Horse - A team you think will beat expectations relative to its seed. It scores if it finishes at least the tournament's configured threshold above that seed (default 5).
🫏 White Donkey - A team you think will fall short of its seed. It scores if it finishes at least the tournament's configured threshold below that seed (default 5).

Team Seedings

Team seeds for each tournament are based on datDota Glicko-2 Team Ratings. Seeds are set when the tournament is created and act as the baseline for Dark Horse and White Donkey scoring.

FAQ

Can my Dark Horse or White Donkey be the same as a Top 3 pick?

Yes! Dark Horse and White Donkey picks can overlap with your Top 3 picks.

What happens with tied placements?

Many Dota 2 tournaments have tied placements, like two teams sharing 5-6th. For Dark Horse scoring, the best placement in that tie range is used. For White Donkey, the worst placement in the tie range is used. Ties always break in favor of the predictor.

Can I edit my prediction?

Yes, you can edit your prediction as many times as you want before the tournament starts. After the start time, predictions are locked.

D2 Predictor is a non-commercial fan project inspired by We Say Things with SUNSfan and syndereN.
